Careers There are 13 major ports and about 187 non-major ports in the country. About 95% of Indias international trade passes through these ports. The present port capacities are inadequate to meet the burgeoning trade requirements of the future. The overall traffic is likely to go up to about 2500 million tonnes by 2019-20 from the present level of about 850 million tonnes. To meet this anticipated traffic, plans are afoot to increase the port capacities to about 3000 million tonnes by 2020. The increase in port capacities would require corresponding increase in the number of skilled personnel to operate these ports. However, there is acute shortage of trained port personnel in the country. There is a need to groom and train people keeping in mind the environment and requirements of the domestic port industry. The products of VIPM will thus have ample opportunity to find jobs in various port terminals, major ports, non-major ports, container freight stations, inland container depots, logistics parks etc. VIPM will render necessary assistance in arranging for campus recruitments. .
